Ilkley Moor Alien Encounter (1987) – One of Britain’s Most Famous UFO Mysteries
On December 1, 1987, retired police officer Philip Spencer claimed he encountered a strange humanoid while walking through the fog on Ilkley Moor in West Yorkshire, England.

Spencer said he saw a small green humanoid figure, roughly four feet tall, standing in front of him. He quickly snapped a single photograph before the mysterious being disappeared into the mist. As he followed it, he claimed to witness a dome-shaped UFO silently lift off from the moor and shoot into the sky.
Even stranger, Spencer believed that around two hours of time were missing from his memory. Under hypnosis, he later described being taken aboard an unknown craft and examined by non-human beings. These claims remain unverified and are based on his personal account.
The famous photograph has sparked debate for decades. Some believe it could be genuine evidence of an alien encounter, while skeptics argue it may simply show a person or another ordinary object in the fog. To this day, the Ilkley Moor incident remains one of the UK’s most discussed UFO cases.
What do you think? Was this a real alien encounter, or just a case of mistaken identity?
