The Lake Cote Incident (1971) – One of the Most Mysterious UFO Photographs Ever Taken

On September 4, 1971, an aerial survey team from Costa Rica’s National Geographic Institute was photographing Lake Cote for a mapping project. The mission had no connection to UFOs, and the crew reported seeing nothing unusual during the flight.
After the film was developed, one photograph revealed something astonishing—a large metallic disc-shaped object appearing above the lake. Surprisingly, the object appeared in only a single frame, while the photos taken immediately before and after showed nothing unusual.
The original negative was later examined by several experts, who reported no evidence of tampering, double exposure, or image manipulation. Even after detailed analysis, no one could definitively identify what the object was.
Because the photograph was taken during an official government mapping mission using professional equipment, many UFO researchers consider it one of the most credible UFO photographs ever captured. At the same time, skeptics argue that an unusual photographic or natural explanation may still exist.
More than 50 years later, the Lake Cote Incident remains unsolved, continuing to spark debate among researchers and UFO enthusiasts around the world.
Was this truly an unidentified flying object, or is there another explanation waiting to be discovered?
