Father Gill Boianai Encounter (1959) – One of the Most Credible Mass UFO Sightings?
In June and July of 1959, Father William Booth Gill, an Anglican missionary stationed in Boianai, Papua New Guinea, reported witnessing a strange object hovering in the evening sky.

What makes this case so remarkable is that Father Gill wasn’t the only witness. More than 30 people from the local community also observed the object over multiple evenings. According to their accounts, the craft appeared to be a large, brightly lit disc with several human-like figures visible on its upper section.
The most extraordinary claim came when Father Gill and the witnesses waved toward the object—and the figures reportedly waved back. The sightings continued for several days, and Father Gill carefully documented what he saw in written reports.
Because of the large number of witnesses and the detailed records, the Boianai Encounter remains one of the most discussed UFO cases in history. However, no definitive scientific explanation has been established, and the event continues to be debated by both researchers and skeptics.
