The ancient astronaut theory says that intelligent beings from other worlds visited Earth in the distant past and influenced human culture, religion, technology, or evolution.
One of the most famous writers linked to this idea was Erich von Däniken, whose book Chariots of the Gods? helped make the theory popular. However, the theory is not accepted as proven science because it does not have strong physical evidence, verified artifacts, or reliable genetic proof. Mainstream human origins research is based on fossils, tools, archaeology, and DNA, which show that humans evolved on Earth over millions of years. The Smithsonian says thousands of human fossils and genetic evidence help scientists understand human evolution. Ancient monuments and myths are real and important, but they do not prove that aliens guided humanity. The most accurate conclusion is that ancient astronaut theory is a popular interpretation, while human evolution is best supported by scientific evidence gathered from Earth
