Hikers in remote areas of the American Southwest have reported something that shows up again and again in independent accounts, an object that simply refuses to move with the wind 
Witnesses describe strong gusts bending trees and kicking up dust around them, while the object overhead remains completely motionless, as if anchored to a fixed point in the sky.
That kind of stillness is part of what makes these reports stand out to researchers, since even large aircraft and weather balloons drift or sway under real wind conditions. Several hikers who filed reports independently, in different states and different years, described nearly identical scenes, isolated terrain, strong wind, and an object hanging perfectly still overhead for several minutes before simply disappearing.
Standing alone on a mesa at sunrise, watching something defy the wind itself, would test anyone’s sense of what’s actually possible up there
