Starship opened its payload system and deployed 26 Starlink V3 satellites, the first meaningful payload delivered to orbit by Starship.

SpaceX subsequently established contact with every satellite, providing the clearest demonstration yet that the giant spacecraft could begin functioning as an actual orbital transportation vehicle rather than simply an experimental test article. SpaceX The mission was not flawless.

A Starship Raptor engine shut down prematurely during ascent, and rather than remain in orbit for the approximately 10-hour mission originally planned, controllers shortened the flight as a precaution.

After the payload deployment, Starship coasted around Earth before reigniting a sea-level Raptor for the spacecraft’s first-ever deorbit burn from orbit.

The maneuver successfully lowered its trajectory, sending Starship into the atmosphere toward a pre-cleared splashdown zone in the northern Pacific Ocean.

It survived reentry, descended through supersonic and subsonic flight, reignited its three sea-level engines for the landing sequence and splashed down on target. SpaceX This does not mean Starship performed something literally impossible or violated the laws of physics.

Instead, SpaceX demonstrated several capabilities that engineers have spent years trying to combine in a single enormous reusable spacecraft: reaching orbit, deploying large payloads, restarting an engine for deorbit, surviving atmospheric reentry and controlling the vehicle through its final descent.

The accompanying image showing Starship docking with a futuristic orbital station is also an illustration rather than documentation of Flight 14; no such docking occurred during the mission.

Nevertheless, the implications of what actually happened are significant. SpaceX says Starship is ultimately intended to become a fully and rapidly reusable transportation system for carrying people and cargo to Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars and beyond. SpaceX’s Starship program NASA’s lunar ambitions also depend partly on Starship development, although the Flight 14 engine malfunction remains under investigation and could influence future schedules.

Reuters Flight 14 therefore did not prove that every difficult problem has been solved—rapid upper-stage reuse, orbital refueling and crew-rated operations remain enormous challenges. But it demonstrated something fundamental: Starship can now operate as an orbital spacecraft and deliver useful payloads. After years of prototypes, explosions and increasingly ambitious flight tests, that changes the question surrounding Starship.

It is no longer simply “Can this gigantic vehicle reach orbit?” The next question is whether SpaceX can make it reusable, reliable and routine—and if it succeeds, the consequences for satellites, lunar exploration and eventually missions to Mars could be enormous.

SpaceX Just Confirmed Starship Did Something Impossible — This Changes Everything SpaceX has just crossed one of the most important thresholds in the history of its Starship program, accomplishing something the enormous vehicle had never done before: Starship reached a true Earth orbit, delivered operational payloads, and then successfully performed a controlled deorbit maneuver to […]

[8,7
2356
post-8475","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-ufo","category-aliens","tag-spacex-just-confirmed-starship-did-something-impossible-this-changes-everything
["GET
