A field report by Dr. Adrian Wells, Xenobiologist

Until last month, I thought I had seen every species Earth had to offer. Thirty years of research across six continents taught me that nature still holds secrets — but nothing could prepare me for what we found deep beneath the Pacific floor.

It started with a seismic anomaly 180 kilometers off the Mariana Trench. Satellite sensors picked up faint thermal signatures — impossible at that depth. The UN funded a small research team to investigate. I was brought on as a consultant, mostly to rule out known lifeforms.

What we found… was not in any textbook.

The Descent

We reached the site aboard the Abyss Glider II , a submersible capable of withstanding 16,000 psi. The trench walls looked normal — until we passed 11,000 meters. Suddenly, sonar picked up a narrow rift in the rock, no wider than three meters, but extending hundreds downward.

Inside that fissure, the water shimmered strangely — denser, almost gelatinous. Lights are dimmed. Radio contact broke. Then something moved.

Not drifted. Not swamped. Moved. With intention.

The First Encounter

The creature emerged like an unfurling ribbon. Translucent, serpentine, at least twelve meters long — but segmented like a centipede. It had no eyes, no mouth, but its head — if we could call it that — glowed faintly blue and emitted pulses.

I felt it before I heard it: a pressure behind my eyes , like distant static whispering words I didn’t know, but somehow understood.

“Leave. Not time. Still sleeping.”

Then it was gone, folding itself into the trench wall like mist into fog.

The Surface Reaction

Naturally, our footage went straight to the International Council. Half the data was corrupted — magnetically scrambled — but enough remained to spark headlines:

“Ancient Intelligence Discovered Under Earth’s Crust?”
“New Species or Alien Remnant?”
“Deep Sea Ghost: Mass Hallucination or Global Warning?”

While the public speculated, we were given one directive: return.

The Garden Below

Our second descent revealed more than we imagined. Inside the rift was an entire ecosystem unlike anything ever cataloged.

  • Floating orbs the size of footballs, pulsing with internal light, which recoils at sound.

  • Silicon-based tendrils clinging to the rocks, moving not in reaction, but seems in conversation.

  • A bipedal silhouette glimpsed in the murk — six limbs, tall as a human child, covered in scale-like prisms that shimmered when we moved.

One of our crew, a geologist named Irina, swore she heard a lullaby in her helmet comm — in her native Russian — even though it was muted.

We weren’t alone. And we were being watched .

The Final Transmission

We attempted to collect samples, but the atmosphere thickened. Equipment jammed. Lights dimmed again. Then, they appearedthree of them , hovering above the trench floor. Not floating. Levitating.

One raised an arm — or appendage — and touched the side of our submersible. A bloom of light , like ink in reverse, spread through the water. Cameras died.

My last image: a single glowing eye… and what looked like a tear .

We woke up on the surface. No memory of ascent. The sub was intact, but clocks disagreed — five hours missing. Irina was silent. Hasn’t spoken since.

Conclusion?

So when they asked, “What are the strangest creatures discovered recently?”
I answer:

Not aliens.
Not sea monsters.
Witnesses.

They live far below, waiting. Not hiding — watching. Dreaming.

And maybe, just maybe… they’ve been waiting for us to listen.
